Portland Walking Tours - Underground Portland

Today we took 2 hours out of our day to learn about some of Portland's history. We learned about Crimping / Shanghaiing and famous Portland crimpers like Bunco Kelly.
"Shanghaiing was the act of forcibly conscripting someone to serve a term working on a ship, usually after having been rendered senseless by alcohol, drugs or a sharp blow to the head ."
The terrible internment of the Japanese living in Portland.
"Executive Order 9066 allowed the U.S. military to relocate Japanese to detention centers. Thousands of citizens and legal aliens were detained during the war, but no Japanese American was ever found to have collaborated with the enemy." This led to the Civil Liberties Act of 1988.
Wa also learned about Bud Clark, Mayor of Portland from 1985 - 1992. We look forward to visiting Bud Clark's Goose Hollow Inn in the Southwest.
We visited Old Town Pizza and Dan & Louis Oyster Bar (since 1907).
