With the weather impossible to improve upon, we decided to finally take the 110 mile drive to Mount St. Helens (Route). Our destination was Johnston Ridge Observatory - 5-1/2 miles from the crater at an elevation of 4,314'. Mount St. Helens is one of only two active volcanoes in the U.S. (the other being Kilauea in Hawaii).
